MS Dhoni made a comeback as captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) but it hasn’t been fruitful, and the franchise is facing its worst season till date. CSK has witnessed a steep decline with three wins from 13 matches, MS Dhoni and co. are last on the points table. Although there remains a technical possibility of improving their position, their performance is otherwise. Their last game of the season is again Gujarat Titans and the Kings would want to end it with a win.
CSK’s Poor Season In IPL 2025
CSK’s troubles began with a series of questionable auction choices. Injuries compounded their woes, especially with Ruturaj Gaikwad’s exit, pushing Dhoni back into the captaincy role. But this time, nostalgia didn’t bring results. Dhoni’s limited prep and age seem to have caught up with him in a fast-evolving league like the IPL.

Sanjay Bangar Asks MS Dhoni To “Move On”
Following this campaign, Sanjay Bangar gave a strict verdict for MS Dhoni and mentioned that its time to step out from the team.
“At 43, it’s very tough to play in that competitive environment. Leave aside this competitive environment, but even if you go and play some local cricket, you will find how tough it is on the body. It all boils down to MS, but if I was MS, I would say it’s enough. I have played whatever I wanted to play; I have looked after the interest of the franchise as well – if that was the motivation – but you know, you move on. Allow it.”
“By you being there, if you’re thinking that the transition will happen fast, there is never an ideal time. So you might as well have peace with the fact that even if I leave now, the franchise will develop on its own. It may take a year longer, but I am not going to be there for the entire cycle. So that’s how I would look at MS’ position,” Bangar said on ESPNCricinfo.
