New Delhi: Indian cricket fans have cause for celebration as fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has soared to the pinnacle of the latest ICC ODI bowling rankings. His remarkable performance, highlighted by six wickets against Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup final, has catapulted him back to the coveted position of the world’s number one ODI bowler.

A look at Siraj’s path to triumph

Mohammed Siraj had previously tasted the glory of being the top-ranked ODI bowler in January, only to be briefly displaced by Josh Hazlewood in March. However, his incredible showing in the Asia Cup final in September resulted in an astonishing leap of eight places, allowing him to reclaim his throne.

Siraj’s extraordinary bowling spell, where he claimed 6 wickets for a mere 21 runs, was pivotal in India’s resounding victory over Sri Lanka in the title match, where the opposition was bundled out for a mere 50 runs. India secured the championship with a resounding 10-wicket win.

Mohammed Siraj ratings

With 694 ratings to his name, Mohammed Siraj has rightfully ascended to the number one spot in the ICC ODI bowling rankings. Josh Hazlewood now sits at the second position, while Trent Boult secures the third spot. India’s star spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, holds the ninth position in the rankings.

A boon for South African spinner

South African spinner Keshav Maharaj has also witnessed a surge in the latest rankings. His exceptional performance in the final two matches against Australia, where he secured four wickets for just 33 runs, propelled him to the 15th position. Maharaj’s overall tally in the series amounted to an impressive eight wickets.

Afghanistan’s spin duo on the rise

Afghanistan’s spin maestros, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and Rashid Khan, are on the ascent as well. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman has climbed two places to secure the fourth position, while Rashid Khan now claims the fifth spot in the rankings.

England’s versatile all-rounder Chris Woakes currently stands at the 11th position, while South Africa’s pace sensation, Lungi Ngidi, holds the 21st position.

Mohammed Siraj’s remarkable resurgence to the number one spot augments India’s bowling arsenal ahead of the World Cup 2023, bolstering their prospects in the highly anticipated tournament.
