India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami will not be playing the first match of Vijay Hazare Trophy against Delhi. It has been noticed that Shami has been trying to regain his full fitness and join back the Indian team for national duty but his injury woes seem to stick with him.
The fast bowler has suffered a huge setback even before the start of Vijay Hazare Trophy as reported by The Times Of India (TOI), he has been ruled out of tournament opener due to swelled knee.
Mohammed Shami Absent From Border-Gavaskar Trophy
India is currently playing the five-match Test series against Australia and Shami’s absence can definitely be felt in India’s pace attack. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj have been taking the charge but Shami is missing in the trio. India and Australia have now levelled the series and stand on 1-1.
Mohammed Shami’s Long Struggle With Injuries
Mohammed Shami has been struggling with injuries since ODI World Cup 2023, he went through an ankle surgery after that. Since then he has been recovering in NCA and trying to regain back his full-fitness. He also mentioned that he wants to play domestic cricket before joining back Indian team. In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Shami was in incredible form and picked 16 wickets overall.
Champions Trophy: New Assignment For Team India
The Champions Trophy will be played in February likely to start from 19th. But with so many injury concerns, uncertainty looms over his availability and whether Shami will be fully fit to play and join the Indian team. On December 19, the ICC confirmed that India-Pakistan matches will be played in a neutral venue after India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan.
