The former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has given Rohit Sharma a new task for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. He asked the experienced MI player to set a run tally target he has not achieved in his T20 career. Rohit Sharma has been one of the most successful captain in the IPL history but now Mohammad Kaif has thrown a big challenge in front of him to score even more runs.
Mohammad Kaif on Rohit Sharma’s runs
“We talk about Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, but Rohit Sharma has not scored 700-800 runs in a season. In the IPL, he gets points for captaincy and experience, but when you compare him with Virat Kohli or some other batter, he doesn’t score 600-700 runs. He scores in one or two matches and becomes the Man of the Match,” Kaif said on his YouTube channel.
Adding that the forthcoming season might outline Rohit Sharma’s batting ambitions, Kaif mentioned that the 38-year-old opener would want to respond strongly after his lean returns in the last couple of years.
“So, the biggest test for him this time is to cross the 500-run or 600-run mark. Sai Sudharsan scored 750 runs this time. So, Rohit Sharma would also want to score around 600 runs because he has gotten lean and is in good form. He will be very hungry for runs in this IPL,” he added.
Rohit Sharma’s Career In IPL
Rohit Sharma started his IPL journey with Deccan Chargers in 2008 and in the year 2009 he won the title with the team. In the 2011 season, the ‘Hitman’ joined Mumbai Indians (MI) and he gained immense success with the franchise. He was handed the captaincy of MI mid-season in 2013 and he then went on to become the most successful captain in the history of IPL. Having won 5 titles for MI, he is also the leading run-scorer at third position with 7046 runs in the tournament.
