The Gujarat Titans have moved up to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with a nail-biting last-ball win over the Mumbai Indians, snapping MI’s six-match winning streak. Rain played a pivotal role in this contest, leading to DLS adjustments and multiple momentum shifts. The critical period came between the second and final rain breaks. GT, were cruising at 107/2, collapsed to 132/6 as Jasprit Bumrah changed everything as he sent back Shubman Gill and Shahrukh Khan. Boult and Ashwani Kumar’s support saw GT lose grip on the DLS score. But the drama took a more serious turn in the last over. Chasing 15 from the last six deliveries, Deepak Chahar’s no-ball and wild lengths provided GT a lifeline. While Gerald Coetzee was dismissed with one required off two, a run-out mishap settled the match in GT’s favor.
Shubman Gill On GT’s Win Despite Rain
After the match, GT Skipper Shubman Gill reflected on the win and also highlighted how the rain was creating a lot of obstacles in the match.
“There was a little bit of chaos when we came into bat after the rain but always good to have a W (win) on your side. The game plans were different in the powerplay, it was raining and the atmosphere was such that it felt like a Test match. We wanted to take the game on after the powerplay but the rain kept coming.”
Gill On Losing Wickets
“The wicket was a little bit slow, with the rain coming in, the shots were not easy to hit so we thought, when it’s in our zone, we would go for it. It was frustrating, we were ahead at one stage but we lost 4/20. But, the universe gave us a chance before two minutes and we took it. When the match goes till the last ball when you chase 150, every contribution becomes important.”
Shubman Gill Provides An Update On Rashid Khan
“Wins like these get you through in these big tournaments like IPL. (On Rashid’s bowling tonight) He is coming back from injury, it’s not easy, he was bowling well in the nets and good to see him bowl well tonight. Thoughts like these can creep in but we need to take every game as it is. It’s about coming in and giving your everything when you come into play.”
GT Seal Victory In Last Over Thriller
Earlier, Mumbai posted 155/8, a score built on Will Jacks’ 53 and Suryakumar Yadav’s 35, both of whom benefitted from early dropped chances. GT’s spinners then wrestled back control in the middle overs, restricting MI’s scoring and sparking a collapse. In response, GT’s innings was a story of momentum shifts. Jos Buttler and Gill stabilized the chase but Bumrah came as a storm and brought MI back into the picture. However, late blows from Tewatia and Coetzee assisted GT in securing a nail-biting victory through DLS.
