Mayank Yadav was in the spotlight as the potential contender for India’s T20I squad since his IPL debut this year and finally he has received his maiden call-up.
From Being The IPL Sensation To Getting Maiden India Team Call-Up
He began on a high note by breaching the 150kph mark and continued to take wickets, but then injury kept him out and, effectively delayed his call to national duty. Thankfully, he was deemed fit to return to the competitive cricket a month ago and BCCI promptly added him into the squad for T20I series against Bangladesh.

VVS Laxman Guided Mayank Yadav
“All credit to Laxman sir. He took a special interest in Mayank, right from the day Mayank went to NCA. He was given a clear instruction by Laxman sir to first work on his core strength and then start bowling,” Sharma told The Indian Express.
“It was a slow process. BCCI didn’t want to take any risk. He started bowling two months back, and it took him a month to get back to his normal speed. For the past six weeks, he has been bowling 15 overs per day at the NCA, another instruction given to him by Laxman sir,” said Devender.
Former India batter VVS Laxman, who heads the NCA in Bengaluru, has been a strong voice for his rehabilitation. Mayank’s coach Devender Sharma said that when Laxman arrived at NCA, he took a personal interest in the recovery of the fast bowler. Laxman provided crucial inputs to Mayank while he did his rehab and bowling drills.
Mayank Yadav To Feature In Border-Gavaskar Trophy?
Of the three pacers chosen for the T20I series, Mayank is one of those who will accompany the likes of Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh.
“Yes, there is a temptation to Mayank to Australia. But as far as I know, he will be tested in the T20Is first. Thereafter, he was told to play Ranji Trophy for Delhi. The NCA wants to monitor his body and whether it can cope with the pressure of four days or not. For now, he is fit to bowl four overs, in my opinion, he needs a season of domestic cricket to get ready for the four-day matches,” he said.
Sharma also stated that the BCCI is considering picking him for the five-Test series they will play against Australia later in the year. But for that, the speedster will have to play the Ranji Trophy before he is considered for Test selection.
