Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) received a good news on the return of fast bowler Mayank Yadav. Yet, the young pacer remains unlikely to be ready for the beginning of IPL 2025, with LSG scheduled to kick off their campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Vizag.
Mayank Yadav Set for Mid-April Return
According to a report by MyKhel, Mayank has returned to bowling and is almost back to full fitness from his thigh injury. The report states that the speedster is likely to return to action by mid-April, with LSG targeting his comeback in the home game against Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium.
“Mayank has already started to bowl and looking good to play in the IPL in a few weeks time,” a source close to the cricketer said.

Whereas LSG had originally asked for Mayank to undergo his rehab under their charge, the BCCI rejected their appeal since the pacer is now a centrally contracted player and has to undertake his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Impressive Start To IPL Career Before Injury Setback
Mayank gave a stunning IPL debut last season, taking seven wickets from only four games at an average of 12.14. His campaign was cut short due to injury but his performances made a lasting impact on selectors.
His performances resulted in him making it to the Indian team, and he took the field on his international debut in October, in the home series against Bangladesh, where he took four wickets in three games at a rate of 6.91.

LSG’s Injury Worries Mounting
LSG’s pace attack is in big trouble before IPL 2025. Apart from Mayank’s slow return, the team is also expecting NCA clearance for Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan, adding to their bowling woes.
To add to their woes, Australia’s all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has assured that he will be available only as a batter this season with a back injury, restricting LSG’s options as an all-rounder.
Shardul Thakur Joins LSG Camp – Replacement in Sight?
In the midst of their increasing injury troubles, LSG may be eyeing reinforcements. India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who surprisingly remained unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, was seen training at LSG’s camp on Sunday. His experience and all-round skills could bring valuable depth to the team if he is formally added as a replacement.
With several setbacks prior to the tournament itself, LSG will have an uphill task in IPL 2025. But with the expected comeback of Mayank Yadav during mid-April and the probable inclusion of Shardul Thakur, things may start picking up as the season goes along.
