In a notable on-field development ahead of IPL 2026, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have made a big move and roped in New Zealand great Kane Williamson as the strategic advisor. The decision to bring in Williamson is because of his experience and immense knowledge of the sport.
Williamson has been associated with Goenka’s sport empire since long as he represented Durban Super Giants in the SA20 League. His transition into mentorship starts a new role in his cricketing journey.

Earlier this year, Williamson was among the five New Zealand players who declined their central contract from New Zealand Cricket in order to pursue opportunities in franchise leagues around the globe. He has still not retired from international cricket.
He is part of LSG’s coaching department during a period of strategic transformations. The franchise also recently appointed ex-India bowling coach Bharat Arun to their backroom resources.
Williamson has immense experience of the Indian Premier League (IPL), having featured in the competition over 10 years from 2015 to 2024. His most successful season was 2018, when he won the Orange Cap with 735 runs as SRH captain. He captained SRH through to 2022 before joining Gujarat Titans in 2023, though injuries restricted his participation in the following two seasons.
During the IPL 2025 mega auction, Williamson remained unsold and this led to much speculation regarding his move in the league next one that has now come true off the field.
