Lionel Messi again demonstrated why he’s among the all-time greats to have ever played the sport, breaking several records as Inter Miami routed Nashville 5-2 on Sunday. The Argentine genius came up with a jaw-dropping hattrick his 60th in pro football to finish off the regular MLS season in style. The Inter Miami captain clinched the 2025 MLS Golden Boot after he registered a stunning hattrick.
Messen’s most recent masterclass was completed with 29 goals and 16 assists in 27 games, the highest ever statistics in a single MLS season. Messi, 37, scored the opener in the 36th minute before Nashville responded with two goals courtesy of Sam Sturridge and Jacob Schaffelburg to lead 2-1 at halftime.
Undeterred, Messi led Inter Miami’s comeback charge, equalizing from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute and then watching Baltasar Rodriguez restore their advantage moments later. He completed his hattrick in the 81st minute before unselfishly setting up Telasco Segovic in stoppage time to seal the emphatic win.
Inter Miami ended their regular season with 19 victories, seven draws, and eight defeats, in third position in the Eastern Conference table. They are set to play sixth-placed Nashville once again in the first round of the MLS playoffs, with Messi in scintillating form before the knockout phase.
