The world of cricket is seeing a transitional phase and the greats who ruled the game during the last 15 years are gradually retiring. Virat Kohli bid adieu to Tests and T20Is, Steve Smith has skipped ODIs, Joe Root has moved away from T20 cricket, and Kane Williamson hasn’t played a T20I since New Zealand’s surprising exit in the previous T20 World Cup. We are essentially at the last pages of the Fab Four era.
Kohli, Smith, Williamson, and Root have borne the batting responsibility for their countries for more than a decade now. All of them are now in their mid-30s and their careers are obviously in the twilight phase. With younger stars on the rise, the cricketing fraternity is wondering: who is going to inherit the mantle? Is there a new Fab Four being shaped?

As per Williamson himself, the reply is yes. The erstwhile skipper of New Zealand has identified four players he feels can carry the baton ahead and coincidentally, two of them are Indians.
“The players that come to mind in terms of multi-format are Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rachin Ravindra and Harry Brook,” Williamson said while speaking to ESPNcricinfo, while adding a fifth member. “And also, Cameron Green. Those are all outstanding players and have shown fantastic moments in all formats. All young, and their games are just growing.”

Shubman Gill has been named as the new Test captain of India and will be featuring in the England tour. Yashasvi Jaiswal also made a century on his Test debut and had a record-breaking 700 plus run series against England.
