Rohit Sharma has long been one of Indian cricket’s most dependable stars, and not just because of his batting. Once again, the former India captain has proven why brands trust him to deliver, starring in a Netflix promo that’s gone viral ahead of the much-anticipated Stranger Things finale.
Rohit Sharma goes viral in a Netflix promo for the Stranger Things finale, blending his iconic “garden” line with Vecna. The video plays perfectly to Rohit’s strengths. Calm, authoritative and effortlessly funny, he slips straight into ‘coach mode,’ delivering what looks like a classic pre-match dressing-room speech. Only this time, the ‘finale’ he keeps referring to isn’t a World Cup clash or a series decider – it’s a face-off with Vecna.
The promo opens on a light, playful note. Players are seen dancing to Koi Sehri Babu Dil Lehri Babu, a cheeky callback to Rohit’s viral dance moment with Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur from a past tour. That relaxed vibe lasts all of a few seconds. Rohit storms in and snaps, ‘Are you strolling in the garden?’ instantly flipping the switch and establishing control.

From there, the ad cleverly walks a tightrope between cricket seriousness and sci-fi chaos. Rohit warns the room, “Boys, the finale is coming. Not just your careers, but your entire life could be flipped upside down.” For a moment, it sounds like he’s talking about a massive cricket match. Then come the subtle hints: helmets won’t save you, the opposition plays mind games you can’t imagine, and danger can come from anywhere.
The writing shines in these moments. When a player mutters, “That’s why he hasn’t scored a double century in a while,” Rohit instantly picks up on it. With mock menace, he fires back, reminding everyone he has hit double hundreds before adding that the next opposition can attack through walls, floors and even the roof. Right on cue, the dressing-room lights flicker.
That’s when the promo fully leans into Stranger Things territory. Rohit announces that the kits have been designed by an expert. “Personally handcrafted by Steve,” he says. A youngster excitedly asks, “Steve Smith?” Rohit shuts it down immediately. “No man, not Smith – Harrington.” The follow-up line,’Sounds like a Ranji player’, keeps the cricket humour flowing.
When the kit box opens, the outfits resemble costumes straight out of Hawkins, drawing laughs and raised eyebrows. Rohit’s warnings grow darker and more dramatic. “When you see the opposition captain, your heart won’t pound, it’s your neck that will start paining,” he says, an unmistakable nod to Vecna’s signature move.
The payoff lands cleanly. ‘But Rohit bhai, who is the opposition?’ a player finally asks. Rohit’s response is pure drama. “The same guy who lifts people up like kites,” he says, before roaring, ‘Vecna’ The crossover is complete.
It’s a smart, well-written promo that blurs the line between sport and pop culture and Rohit carries it with ease. Fans on social media were quick to praise his comic timing and screen presence, with plenty joking that he looks ready for Bollywood whenever he decides to hang up his boots.
On the cricketing front, Rohit remains very much in the conversation. At 38, he’s already retired from two of the three international formats, stepping away from Tests and T20Is. But he hasn’t stepped away from the grind. Over the past few months, Rohit has worked extensively on his fitness and stayed match-ready, with his eyes firmly set on the 2027 ODI World Cup.
There were doubts about whether he could maintain rhythm after reducing his international workload. He’s answered those questions emphatically. Since returning from a six-month break, Rohit has scored 348 runs in six matches, including a century and three half-centuries. His form was instrumental in India’s recent series wins against South Africa and Australia in November and December.
Rohit to play in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Right now, he’s in Jaipur training with the Mumbai squad ahead of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Rohit is among several senior internationals who’ve committed to playing at least two matches in the domestic 50-over competition, which begins on December 24, a clear sign that he’s serious about staying sharp.
Whether it’s leading a team against world-class bowlers or hyping up a Netflix finale, Rohit Sharma continues to show why he’s one of Indian sport’s most reliable stars. Calm under pressure, sharp with his humour, and still delivering where it matters most.
