Ravichandran Ashwin couldn’t hide his excitement as he made his return to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the IPL 2025 Auction on November 24. The seasoned off-spinner, who was part of CSK from 2009 to 2015, had been away from the franchise since being released ahead of the 2018 auction.
CSK Roped In Ashwin For 9.75 Crores
Chennai made a bold statement in Day 1 of the auction, outbidding other rivals like RCB, LSG, and RR to bring Ashwin back into the franchise. The five-time IPL champion snatched the service of Ashwin for a big ₹9.75 crores. The 37-year-old will once again reunite with captain MS Dhoni and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Ashwin Delighted After Getting Picked By CSK
In a heartwarming message shared by CSK on their official Instagram, Ashwin expressed gratitude to the franchise, acknowledging how they played a very significant role in shaping his international career. He shared how great it felt for him to see CSK go all-out for him again, something that seemed quite similar to 2011, when he was emerging as a key player in Indian cricket. Reflecting on his previous experiences, Ashwin also spoke about the warmth and respect the CSK fans showed to him even when he was playing against them. Now, he is really looking forward to sharing the dressing room once again with Dhoni and young gun Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Apart from Ashwin, CSK also added the services of Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad for ₹10 crore during the auction, which further strengthens the squad for IPL 2025.
