The IPL 2026 retention deadline is nearing and one of the trade that has been in spotlight since a very long time is of Sanju Samson. It is expected that Samson is most likely to be traded to Chennai Super KIngs (CSK) and in return Ravindra Jadeja will join Rajasthan Royals.
After the players provide written approval, the teams can formalize the deal, which will then require ratification from the governing council, as per ESPNcricinfo. But another important aspect that is surfacing now is who will lead Rajasthan Royals? A new report by Times of India has emerged which states that wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the front runners in captaincy race.
In IPL 2025, Riyan Parag captained the Royals in absence of Sanju Samson but for the upcoming season the management seems to go in different direction with Jaiswal and Jurel as potential candidates to succeed him as RR captain.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson’s trade is the center point ahead of IPL 2026. In 67 matches as captain, Samson has recorded 33 wins and 33 losses. In 2024 season Sanju played an exceptional role as he scored 531 runs with an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.47.
Now, CSK and RR are all set to swap Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson. A report by Cricbuzz confirmed that both the franchises are in advanced talks and the deal will be closed by 48 hours.
