CSK vs MI: Players To Watch Out For
Ruturaj Gaikwad
In IPL 2024, Ruturaj Gaikwad stepped up as CSK’s captain, taking over from MS Dhoni. He thrived in the role, scoring 583 runs in 14 matches at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 141.16, including a century and four fifties. His calm leadership and consistent performances make him CSK’s future star.
Rachin Ravindra

Suryakumar Yadav
With Hardik Pandya absent, Suryakumar Yadav will captain Mumbai Indians today. Surya had a stellar IPL 2024, scoring 345 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 167.48, including a stunning 102*. His leadership and form will be key for MI’s performance at Chepauk tonight.

Vignesh Puthur to Ravindra, SIX, just one hit away now! This is Rachin's third six against Vignesh Puthur and the cleanest of the lot. Full and right in the middle of leg-side arc
Boult to Jadeja, 1 run, direct hit would have been the end of Ravindra Jadeja. Not to be. He went back to mistime the punch to mid-wicket, Raju had one stump to aim at and he missed treh target by a fair margin
Boult to Jadeja, FOUR, too much width outside off and Jadeja does well to open the bat face and slice it through the vacant backward point region
Naman Dhir to Jadeja, 1 run, short and keeps a touch low outside off, Jadeja premeditates the sweep and manages to drag it off the inside half to the left of deep square
Will Jacks to Sam Curran, out Bowled!! Surrey v Surrey. Jacks wins the battle. An ugly slog from Sam Curran. He tries to slog this out of the ground, but the length was a bit too full to do that. The ball skids through and sneaks past his under edge to make a mess of the wood work.
Vignesh Puthur to Hooda, out Caught by Satyanarayana Raju!! The debutants combine to remove another CSK batter. While Vignesh Puthur is having a dream debut, another debutant from Andhra's Kakinada just pulled off a specky
Vignesh Puthur to Shivam Dube, out Caught by Tilak Varma!! Vignesh Puthur has two. He has his hands aloft as he celebrates the big wicket of Dube. After missing out on the previous delivery, Dube flexed his muscles to bash a big one but it didn't come off. He went really hard against this fulll delivery spinning in and ended up getting it off the bottom half of the bat. Tilak moves across to his left and completes a fine catch at long-on.
Will Jacks to Shivam Dube, SIX, how short is too short for Shivam Dube? Will Jacks dropped it a tad quicker and shorter just outside off, the ball was keeping low but Dube was in no mood to play it along the ground. He was quick to rock back and use all his muscle to thump the pull over mid-wicket
Vignesh Puthur to Gaikwad, out Caught by Will Jacks!! Catching practice for the fielder in the deep. Vignesh Puthur is mobbed by his team mates as he claims his maiden IPL wicket. Boy, is he pumped! Ruturaj has a disappointed look as he inspects the toe of his bat before walking towards the pavilion. Vignesh Puthur went fuller and just outside off, Ruturaj's eyes lit up as he lofted down the ground hoping to add another maxium to his tally. Not to be. Skews it off the bottom half of the bat and picks out Jacks at long-off.
Satyanarayana Raju to Ravindra, 1 run, hip-lined delivery, Ravindra tucks it wide of mid-wicket and quickly crosses over
Chahar to Gaikwad, SIX, to deep mid-wicket
Chahar to Tripathi, out Caught by Rickelton!! Chahar strikes in his first over. This was definitely a plan against Tripathi. Chahar is generally a swing bowler but first ball to Tripathi and he goes short, rushes him around the left shoulder and the pull does not come off, the ball hits the glove and lobs behind for Rickelton who takes a simple catch. Mumbai needed an early wicket and Chahar has delivered.
Boult to Ravindra, no run, uhhh! How did that miss the stumps? Swings in from a fullish length, Ravindra is drawn into the drive and leaves a big gap between bat and pad, the ball sneaks through and misses the off-stump by a whisker
It was always going to be a trial against spin at the Chepauk and the Mumbai Indians batters have failed to cope with Chennai's spin trio especially Noor Ahmad. Losing three wickets in the powerplay didn't help either as Rohit fell in the first over, Rickelton didn't last long and so did Will Jacks. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma steadied the innings with a 51-run partnership but that's when Noor's magic started. He deceived SKY with a googly and then accounted for Minz and Tilak in the same over. The Mumbai Indians innings was going nowhere as Noor recorded figures of 4/18. But a late cameo from Deepak Chahar has taken the total past 150 and their bowlers have something to defend. We'll be back shortly with the chase..
Nathan Ellis to Santner, out Lbw!! Ellis goes straight to Dhoni and hugs him. But Ellis also should get credit because he was confident that the ball was at least hitting the stumps. This is another big blow for Mumbai Indians with two overs to go. Short of length delivery and it skids across, Santner is rooted to the crease and is beaten for pace, the ball strikes him on the back pad and he was right in front of the stumps. Ball-tracking shows it to be hitting the top of middle-stumP
Nathan Ellis to Chahar, leg byes, 1 run, slower ball around off, Chahar is early into his tuck and the ball deflects off the thigh pad
Noor Ahmad to Chahar, no run, flighted delivery on off, Chahar prods forward and blocks it back to Noor. He ends a fine spell - 4-0-18-4
Noor Ahmad to Naman Dhir, out Bowled!! Cleaned up! Noor has a 4-fer. He's knocked over Dhir behind his legs. That's a dream dismissal for any wrist spinner. This is the wrong 'un which is floated up around leg
Ashwin to Naman Dhir, FOUR, much needed boundary. Carrom ball from Ashwin and Dhir picked it early, he makes room and lofts it with the turn over extra cover. The timing was good enough to beat the long-off fielder..
Noor Ahmad to Tilak Varma, out Lbw!! That is a body blow from Noor Ahmad. This is why having left-arm wristies with a googly is such a lethal weapon against a team with LHBs. Tilak didn't read this googly. Only wanted to nudge to get though and keep strike but he missed the ball completely and impact was right in front of off stump. Ball tracking says hitting nothing but middle of middle stump
Noor Ahmad to Robin Minz, out Caught by Jadeja!! And when he does connect he's picked out long-off to perfection. Flighted googly outside off stump, Robin wanted to break-free but it's next to impossible if you don't pick up variations from the hand. All he did was pick up long-off. MI in trouble now.
Noor Ahmad to Suryakumar Yadav, out Stumped!! He is the next thing to the speed of light is MS Dhoni. SKY didn't even complete the bat swing when Dhoni ignited the stumps. Those firm hands that don't go back on the gather and that aggressive forward push towards the stumps always and SKY is stumped. Noor gets his first CSK wicket and it's a big one. Was always a risk trying to take on Noor because it's difficult to read him from the hand.
Noor Ahmad to Tilak Varma, byes, FOUR, that's foxed the batter and the keeper. Tilak thought it was the googly and played a mighty slog, but it spun away to miss the bat and even Dhoni didn't pick that one
Jadeja to Tilak Varma, 1 run, quicker delivery on the stumps, Tilak goes back and works it behind square
Noor Ahmad to Suryakumar Yadav, 1 run, top edgeeee but safe! SKY places the sweep as Noor Ahmad bowls full, luckily Khaleel wasn't quick enough running in from deep backward square leg
Ashwin to Will Jacks, out Caught by Shivam Dube!! And he strikes in his very first over on return to his own den! Anbuden ungalai Anbudan varaverkiradhu (Chepauk gives you a warm welcome). He doesn't want to hide his big smile. The carrom ball from Ash, Jacks tried to play the aggressive card with a lofted inside out drive, complete mishit. MId-off runs back for a simple catch. MI three down now.
Nathan Ellis to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR, pulls this between mid-on and mid-wicket. Short of a length, sat up nicely, almost pulled that with a straight bat and timed it sweetly to clear the infield as well. Much needed hit from SKY
