The IPL auction is scheduled to be held on November 24 and 25, but one of the most exciting development is that England’s most famous fast bowler, James Anderson, who last played a T20 game in 2014 and has never featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL), surprisingly, applied for the IPL 2025 mega auction that scheduled to be held in Jeddah. Anderson, had retired from playing international cricket this year and is now is coaching England’s bowling lineup. Anderson’s move makes a big push to break into the T20 circuit as he seeks an IPL contract.
Indian Players Under 2 Crore Category
According to ESPNCricinfo, few big-ticket Indian cricketers also have their names in the highest base price category of INR 2 crore for the auction. Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer have already been released from their respective teams. The other marquee names are of Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Shami also features in this category.

Other notable Indian players appearing in the 2 crore list are Deepak Chahar, Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, T Natarajan, Devdutt Padikkal, Krunal Pandya, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Umesh Yadav.
Overseas Players Under 2 Crore Category
A few prominent overseas players have also come into the 2-crore bracket on the international front. Former Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Mitchell Starc, who was bought for a whopping INR 24.50 crore in the last IPL auction, and England’s Jofra Archer, who last played for Mumbai Indians in 2023, are some of the big names who are looking to make a comeback to the IPL. Meanwhile, England’s Test captain Ben Stokes has opted out of the upcoming season.

Total Number Of Players
Total number of 1,574 players are there in the auction are there this will comprise of 320 capped players and 1,224 uncapped players while 30 players will be from the Associate Nations. Of these 1,574 players, 1,165 are Indians, which would comprise 48 capped players and 965 uncapped, while 409 overseas players will be included in the auction. Each team of the IPL is free to sign up to a maximum of 25 players (including retained players). So, there are as many as 204 player spots available and a big bidding war is most likely to be seen.
