Inter Miami have officially confirmed the extension of Lionel Messi’s contract and he will be a part of the team till the 2028 MLS season. The announcement came a day after Miami’s playoff opener, signalling club’s long term intent in order to back their captain. Messi joined the club in 2023 and led them to Leagues Cup title within weeks and has continued to perform exceptionally well for the team.
The club has not revealed any financial details of the deal and the five-year duration alone reflects his commitment to the world’s greatest footballer. For Inter Miami, Messi’s stay offers both continuity and credibility.

At the age of 38, most fans had already begun speculation about retirement. Recently, Messi scored two goals to register a win for Inter Miami against Nashville in the MLS playoffs to give his team 1-0 lead in the best of three series. The Argentine was also awarded MLS Golden Boot before the match started.
