Shardul Thakur who has always been considered as India’s star all-rounder delivered an excellent performance against Jammu and Kashmir. He rescued his team from a dire situation as Mumbai’s top order collapsed. Shardul took a sharp shot at Indian selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar and their decision to overlook him despite proven performances and fitness. He also pointed out that players with demonstrated quality should be given more opportunities rather than getting sidelined.
“What can I talk about my quality? Others should talk about it. They should see that if someone has quality, he should be given more chances,” Shardul Thakur told the media

“I like batting in difficult situations. In easy situations, everyone does well, but how you put up the show in adverse situations matters. I see tough situations as a challenge and always think about how to overcome that challenge,” he further said.
Mumbai was struggling at 47/7 when Shardul Thakur came in and hit 51 runs off 57 balls which included five boundaries and two sixes, helping Mumbai reach a score of 120. While his performance was the highlight of the match, Indian captain ohit Sharma, in his first Ranji appearance in a decade, had a disappointing return as he was dismissed for three runs.

Mumbai faced early setbacks but Thakur and Tanush Kotian’s 63-run partnership brought stability to Mumbai’s innings. Thakur has always been the saviour for Mumbai, in 2024 Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu he scored 109 runs off 105 balls. Despite his consistent performances Shardul Thakur went unsold in Indian Premier League (IPL).
