John Campbell hits a magnificent four.
India closed out Day 2 in a commanding position with a massive 378-run lead, as West Indies ended the day at 140/4. Ravindra Jadeja led the charge with the ball, picking up three key wickets to put the visitors on the back foot.
Earlier, it was Shubman Gill who stole the spotlight with a superb knock, registering his first century on home soil as India’s captain. India declared their innings at 518/5, building an imposing total. However, the innings wasn’t without drama a miscommunication between Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal resulted in the latter being run out for 175, narrowly missing what would have been his third Test double century.
There were also crucial lower-order contributions from Nitish Reddy (43) and Dhruv Jurel (44), which helped push India well past the 500-run mark. Now with Day 3 starting, India will be eyeing another win after dismantling West Indies.
First ball after the Tea break and there’s immediate drama! Shai Hope is ruled out after a faint bottom edge is caught behind by Dhruv Jurel. Both the keeper and KL Rahul at first slip go up confidently, but the on-field umpire opts to send it upstairs for a closer look.
Replays reveal the ball bounced just before reaching Jurel, meaning Hope survives the scare.
Washington Sundar, however, keeps things tight and finishes the over with a wicket-maiden — minus the wicket.
West Indies are already 2 wickets down and India is moving forward to clinch the series, while the Caribbean side is looking to avoid an embarrassing defeat.
Washington Sundar picks second wicket for India. West Indies struggle again!
A well-directed short ball from Mohammed Siraj brings India their first breakthrough! Tagenarine Chanderpaul goes for the hook but mistimes it, sending the ball high into the air. Skipper Shubman Gill charges in and pulls off a stunning one-handed diving catch to complete the dismissal.
West Indies is still 270 runs short and now the West Indies will follow-on.
5 wickey haul for Kuldeep Yadav as he dismisses Jayden Seales.
Jayden Seales is beginning to put some pressure back on Kuldeep Yadav after patiently negotiating his first 15 deliveries. With Kuldeep hunting for his fifth wicket of the innings, he's starting to bowl more aggressively — and Seales is taking advantage.
The West Indies tail-ender has now struck two boundaries off Kuldeep, showing signs of freeing his arms. Despite the late resistance, the visitors still trail by 270 runs.
India, meanwhile, have the option to take the second new ball after this over. At the end of 80 overs, West Indies are 248/9.
Jasprit Bumrah delivers a perfect reply after being hit for a boundary, as he comes back the very next ball to shatter Khary Pierre’s off stump, breaking a resilient 42-run stand for the 9th wicket.
With Pierre dismissed for 23 off 46 balls (3 fours), West Indies are now 9 down and still 98 runs short of avoiding the follow-on. The visitors trail India by 297 runs, with just one wicket remaining.

It was expected that India will begin the Day 3 with Ravindra Jadeja but Shubman Gill took a surprising decision to send Kuldeep Yadav. Now the big call waiting for Gill is whether he will enforce the follow-on if they bowl West Indies out early. The live action will be starting at 12:10 PM.
West Indies are currently at 2178 at Lunch and now India will be thinking quickly to pick last two wickets.
West Indies cross the 200-run mark as Anderson Phillip steps down the pitch and lofts Ravindra Jadeja over the infield for a boundary. A clever response—almost as if he understood Hindi instructions coming from behind the stumps.
Just one delivery earlier, wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel had advised Jadeja to maintain his line, pointing out that Phillip was trying to close the bat face and work it to the leg side.
But right after Jurel’s warning, Phillip adjusts and sends the ball racing to the fence — a smart counter to the chatter behind the stumps.
Washington Sundar comes into the attack and immediately creates an opportunity. He gets some drift, and the ball strikes Khary Pierre on the pads. The umpire wastes no time in raising the finger, despite what seemed like a faint second noise.
Pierre opts for the review — and it turns out to be a good call. Ball-tracking shows it missing the stumps, leading the third umpire to overturn the on-field decision.
A close call, but Pierre survives! Meanwhile, West Indies inch closer to the 200-run mark.
This time, it’s Mohammed Siraj who disturbs the timber! Just a delivery after a loud LBW appeal was turned down, Siraj strikes gold by dismissing Jomel Warrican. Attempting a drive, Warrican gets an inside edge, and the ball crashes into the middle stump.
West Indies are in serious trouble, having now lost four wickets in just over an hour on Day 3.
Kuldeep Yadav strikes again! West Indies lose their sixth wicket of the first innings and second of the morning as Imlach is trapped LBW. It’s another quick blow for the visitors, with two wickets falling within the first hour of Day 3.
Imlach burned a review on his way back, but the decision was clear-cut: pitched in line, impact in line, crashing into the stumps an easy call for the third umpire.
West Indies still need 156 runs to avoid the follow-on.
Kuldeep Yadav dismisses Hope
Shai Hope is trying to bring in stability and continuing with the partnership with Imlach.
Both the teams are ready and Kuldeep Yadav will be bowling first on Day 3.
Hope and Imlach will continue on Day 3. With four wickets already down the Indian bowlers will be looking forward to dismantle their batting order as soon as possible.
“Shubman has passed his most difficult test, and I told him after we won at The Oval, I told him that he just passed his most difficult test in the transition, and from here on, things will be much easier. I hope they get more easier for him because he deserves every bit of it. The amount of criticism he has received, the kind of things people have said about him, it has been unfair. You can’t expect a 25-year-old kid to have an average of 50, and score every time everywhere. The kind of potential he has, I was never shocked that he scored 750 runs in England,” Gambhir told JioHotstar in an interview.
The pitch seems to be clearly providing turn and it has also provided great assistance to India spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.
