Ravichandran Ashwin has announced retirement from International cricket.
Day 4 Recap: The fourth day of the ongoing third Test between India and Australia delivered high drama and tension as the visitors narrowly avoided the follow-on. At stumps, which came early due to bad light, India were struggling at 252/9, still trailing by 193 runs. The final moments of the day saw Jasprit Bumrah (10*) and Akash Deep (27*) form a determined partnership, frustrating the Australian bowlers and showing commendable resilience to ensure the follow-on was avoided.
Earlier in the day, India’s innings was anchored by KL Rahul, who played a gritty knock of 84 runs, providing some much-needed stability. Ravindra Jadeja also played a vital hand, scoring a well-crafted 77 under pressure. Despite these contributions, the Australian bowlers were relentless, with skipper Pat Cummins leading the attack brilliantly to claim four wickets. Mitchell Starc also proved his worth, taking three crucial scalps to keep India on the back foot.
While Australia seemed in control for most of the day, the fightback from India’s tailenders ensured the contest remained alive, setting up an intriguing final day.
Match Draw, Called Off Due To Rain, AUS 445 & 89/7 d, IND 260 & 8/0
Target for India 275, JAISWAL AND RAHUL ON THE CREASE
Both the Opening batters have arrived to the crease with determination to led to team to victory
And there comes the declaration. Lyon being ready was perhaps a facade, but Australia have given themselves a shade over three hours (light and weather permitting) to try and dismiss India a second time around. India need 275 to win the Brisbane Test, a minimum of 54 overs, but in all honesty, they'll be lucky to face more than 40 overs. Australia came out of the blocks, played shots, lost wickets and have added 89 runs in 18 overs, at a shade under 5 RPO. They've three fit bowlers, Mitch Marsh and Travis Head can bowl as well, but a lot will depend on Starc, Cummins and Lyon if they're to pull off something remarkable.
Bumrah to Carey, no run, the slower ball from Bumrah, Carey spots it early and defends it to the on-side
Another spell for Bumrah and Bumrah takes out Pat Cummins
CATCH WAS THE CALL BUT THE BALL FELL JUST SHORT OF JASPRIT BUMRAH
India's tormentor falls. Banged in short and angling across the left-hander - Head backed away and was looking to thump it over mid-wicket, he's playing aganst the angle though, gets a massive top-edge on the swipe, went high and towards gully, Pant called for the catch, ran across and completes it with use. India using this attacking Australian mindset to get some wickets and get some confidence going.
Akash Deep to Carey, FOUR, cracking shot, Carey is looking in good touch, fraction too full and too wide of off - he leans into the drive and caresses it wide of extra-cover, no need to run for those
Australia have lost half their side now for just 33! Good length delivery angled in and just slid down the leg-side and Smith shuffled across, he looked to glance it fine and just ended up getting stangled down the leg-side. Great catch from Pant as that kept going away from him with the angle, had to dive full length to his left and he held on. Siraj is absolutely fired up
Siraj to Head, 1 run, length delivery on middle-leg, tucked away towards mid-wicket, just one again, good piece of fielding by Devdutt Padikkal
Good length delivery just outside off, after all those deliveries nipped back into Marsh, this one went the other way, he was rooted to his crease and just went feeling for this, tried dragging the bat back in line but it was too late, it had already kissed the outside edge on its way through to Pant.
A four to backforward point. Good length delivery just outside off, Head hung back and stayed leg-side, waited for it to come to him and opened the face of the bat to punch
Australia are sure looking jittery now, full and just outside off, that lifted off the deck a bit more than Head expected, he was looking to drive that on the up and it spooned up off the splice, just landed short of Gill at mid-off
Akash Deep to McSweeney, out Caught by Pant!! There's a third wicket! Now Australia, what's happening here? McSweeney could've used time at the crease but from what we've seen so far, the message from the dressing seems to be to push on and get some runs otherwise you wouldn't see him playing a shot like this. Length delivery wide outside off, there was some width on offer and McSweeney looked to slice it away, didn't look fully committed to the shot and all he could manage was another faint edge through to the keeper.
Out Caught by Pant!! The edge is found! Another loose shot! Australia will not be happy with what they've just seen from their number 3 here.
Byes, 1 run, banged in short and going over the batter easily as he ducks, little fumble from Pant as he collected that, allowed a bye
Siraj to McSweeney, no run, good length delivery on off-stump, McSweeney bunts it towards mid-on
Jasprit Bumrah strikes and sends back Usman Khawaja.
Bumrah gets the new ball and the play has resumed.
Early lunch has been taken due to the rain delay. It has stopped raining now but the outfield is very wet.
It's still raining in Gabba and the match will see a big delay.
There are overcast conditions and a big black cloud has covered the stadium due to which the play has been halted on the basis of precaution.
And its the end of India's innings as Travis Head sends back Akashdeep. India all-out on 260.
India gets FOUR by leg by
Bumrah and Akashdeep are out and Pat Cummins will continue
