New Delhi: India dominated Day 1 against the host, Rohit Sharman and Co. bowled out West Indies for just 150 runs.
Ashwin completes 700 Test wickets
Indian ace off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin picked-up five wickets haul against the West Indies on the first day of the 1st Test match on Wednesday, July 12 at the Windsor Park, Dominica. Ashwin also completed 700 wickets in the longest format of the game. He became the third bowler to do so.
Ashwin cleaned up Alzarri Joseph to reach the 700-wicket mark at the highest level in only his 271st match for the Indian team. The batter tried to go for an powerfull pull on the leg side off Ashwin’s carom ball, only to get a leading edge. Jaydev Unadkat took a simple catch at backward point and Joseph had to walk back after scoring four runs off 14 balls.

Ashwin joins elite list of bowlers
After cliaming Alzarri Joseph wicket, Ashwin joined the elite list of the bowler to claim 700 wickets in International cricket. Before, Ashwin only two Indian bowler were in the list. This list include the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble. In fact, the off-spinner is within touching distance of going past Harbhajan’s tally of 707 wickets. Kumble is sitting on top with 953 wickets from 401 matches.
Ashwin became the 16th bowler to scalped up 700 wickets. The other bowlers are Muttiah Muralitharan (1347), Shane Warne (1001), James Anderson (975), Kumble, Glenn McGrath (949), Wasim Akram (916), Stuart Wide (841), Shaun Pollock (829), Waqar Younis (789), Chaminda Vaas (761), Courtney Walsh (746), Brett Lee (718), Tim Southee (714), Harbhajan and Daniel Vettori (705).
In addition, Ashwin not distant absent from getting to be the moment Indian bowler after Kumble to pick up 500 wickets in Test cricket.

Longevity of Ashwin
Back in 2011, Ashwin made his debut in White jersey for India against West Indies. Then Ashwin removed Shivnarine Chanderpaul. The 36-year-old off-spinner, in his 92nd Test match, dismissed Shivnarine’s son, Tagenarine Chanderpaul. Ashwin also became the first bowler to dismissed father-son duo.
Ashwin’s thought
“Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions. With so many leagues around, we can get carried away with a few performances in these leagues but international cricket is different,” Ashwin said.
