India’s Test captain Shubman Gill was retired hurt on Day 2 of first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday. He appeared in considerable discomfort and the had to leave the field eventually.
The 26-year old came to bat after Washington Sundar was dismissed by Simon Harmer at the score of 29. The incident happened when Gill hit a boundary off Harmer’s next ball but he immediately clutched his neck and was seen in visible pain. The team physio immediately rushed as Gill was struggling to move his neck.

After Gill went away, Rishabh Pant came to bat and he also made a comeback after facing an injury setback in the five-match Test series against England. As for the match, India bowled out South Africa at a mere score of 159 and when India came to bat, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed quickly before stumps on Day 1.
On Day 2, Washington Sundar and KL Rahul tried to form a steady partnership but Sundar was dismissed at a score of 29 followed by Rishabh Pant on 29 and KL Rahul also go back at 39. Till now there has been no long-partnerships and the wickets keep falling in a short duration.
