The 3rd ODI between India and South Africa witnessed another chapter in Sanju Samson’s incredible story.
Often been sidelined during selection from the BCCI, the 29-year-old has scored his maiden international century against South Africa and silenced his critics once again.
His 114-ball 108 against The Proteas gave India hope of putting a challenging total on the board in the series decider. Samson was mindful of how to keep ticking the scoreboard and scored 6 boundaries and 2 sixes as well.
Not considered for the ODI World Cup as well, Sanju took his chance with both hands and scored a resilient hundred at the time when the openers lost early wickets in the game. His maiden ton would have also come to the delight of many fans who were rooting for the player to do well for the Men in blue.
Debutant Rajat Patidar failed to impress as he lost his wicket in the 5th over courtesy of a Nandre Burger delivery. His batting partner Sai Sudharshan who had impressed in the first 2 ODIs, also failed to get runs on the board and got dismissed at just 10 runs. Skipper KL Rahul also tried his best to put some sort of momentum into the innings. However he too got sent back to the pavilion on just 21
Rinku Singh also contributed in the cause with a well paced 38-run cameo. Beuran Hendricks led the Protea bowling attack with 3 wickets on the day.
However, it was Sanju Samson along with Tilak Varma (52) who steered the Men in Blue set a 297-target for South Africa.
South Africa and India are level at 1-1 in the 3-match ODI series and are fighting to seal the series on the night. Team India had won the first ODI while the home side had comeback in the 2nd ODI to level the series.
