The Indian cricket team won the Asia Cup 2025 tournament on September 28. India won the final match by beating Pakistan by five wickets, becoming Asia Cup champions for the ninth time.
Despite the victory, the Indian cricket team players did not receive their medals or the Asia Cup trophy. According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and ACC Chief, Mohsin Naqvi, has kept the trophy.
Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) strongly raised an objection over India not being handed over the Asia Cup trophy during its Annual General Meeting (AGM). BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla lashed out at Mohsin Naqvi, saying that the Asia Cup trophy is not anyone’s personal property. He said that the trophy should be immediately handed over to the winning team.
Team India refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi
Team India won the Asia Cup under the captaincy of Surya Kumar Yadav on September 28. However, Team India refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who also happens to be Pakistan’s Interior Minister. Naqvi was adamant that he would hand over the trophy to Team India, but the Indian cricket team did not accept it and celebrated the victory without the trophy.
Rajeev Shukla hits out at Mohsin Naqvi
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla strongly objected to Naqvi’s behavior during the ACC meeting. In the meeting, Rajeev Shukla and former treasurer Ashish Shellar represented the BCCI. The Asia Cup Trophy has been kept at the ACC office, but it is not clear when it will be handed over to the winning team. A source told PTI that Rajeev Shukla clearly stated that the ACC trophy is not anyone’s personal property and should be immediately handed over to the winning team.
Naqvi was forced to congratulate team India
BCCI said that the ACC has not even congratulated Team India after their victory. It stated that this is wrong, and at the very least, the winning team should be congratulated. Shellar asked, “Why are you not congratulating Team India?” Naqvi was forced to congratulate the team, after which he offered his congratulations.
