India registered a commanding six-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday in the Super Fours of Asia Cup 2025. Chasing a target of 172 runs, the Men in Blue cruised to victory with seven balls to spare, powered by a sensational 74-run knock from Abhishek Sharma and a solid 47 from Shubman Gill.
The standout opening partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill set the tone early on. Abhishek wasted no time stamping his authority, launching the very first ball from Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi over the boundary for a massive six. Although Pakistan fought back with timely wickets after the drinks break, the momentum firmly stayed with India.
After the match, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav reflected on the win and was very happy with how India clinched victory, appraising both Gill and Sharma.
“The way the boys are stepping up in every game, it’s making my job very easy. The boys showed a lot of character. They were calm after the first 10 overs (of India’s bowling innings). After drinks, I told them the game starts now. That’s fine, he’s not a robot, he will have a bad day someday (talking about Bumrah). Dube bailed us out of the situation. They complement each other really well (Abhishek and Gill). It’s like a fire and ice combination. After the first innings, our fielding coach – T Dilip, has emailed all players who had butter fingers today.”
