IND vs PAK, Asia Cup 2025: ‘Nothing wrong with shaking hands’ – Former India cricketer on ‘no-handshake’ controversy

In the last match that India-Pakistan played a huge no-handshake controversy was triggered that left PCB fuming and the matter went up to ICC.

The debate surrounding India-Pakistan match keeps on going and the no-handshake controversy has gained huge attentions after the last match. The Indian players refused to shake hands with the Pakistani side and this triggered PCB. Following this move, PCB went complaining to ICC and dragged in match referee Andy Pycroft also.

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin opined on this controversy at the NDTV's special Asia Cup show. He was of a completely different opinion and he mentioned that there was nothing wrong with shaking hands.

"I feel that there was nothing wrong with shaking hands. When you are playing the match, you might as well play with everything, like shake hands or whatever. I don't know what the problem was. I really cannot understand. But I don't feel there was anything wrong," he said.

"When you're playing in protest, you might as well not play. There's no point playing under protest. Once you've agreed to play-be it ICC events or the Asia Cup-then you must play with full intensity. Otherwise, there's no need to play at all."

India will now play against Pakistan on Sunday, September 21 at the Dubai International Stadium for Super four stage of Asia Cup 2025.
