It was a disheartening eight-wicket defeat for the Indian cricket team against New Zealand in the first Test, especially when they capitulated to 46 in the first innings. Coming hard on the heels of a vastly improved effort in the second innings, Rohit Sharma‘s side couldn’t conjure a turnaround to prevent a convincing victory for their visitors. The team will now focus on Pune and there are reports that the Indian management is looking at a rank turner ahead of the second test.
For New Zealand, Kane Williamson is still recovering from a groin strain and has ruled himself out for the match in Pune. India can consider dropping KL Rahul as Shubman Gill will be returing back to India’s squad. Sarfaraz Khan continues to stay ahead in the race to bagging a spot in playing XI. According to assistant coach of Team India Ryan ten Doeschate, the two are very evenly matched from the selection point, but head coach Gautam Gambhir wants to give Rahul more chances.
