IND Vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah Injured, Harshit Rana IN? Mohammed Shami All Set For ODI Comeback

India will be playing the first ODI against England starting February 6 and all eyes will be on India's pace attack since Jasprit Bumrah is out due to injury.

Jasprit Bumrah is trying to get fully fit for the Champions Trophy, which will start from February 19. The fast bowler missed the last played for India in Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Sydney in January but sustained back injury. While India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier said that Bumrah was available for the last ODI against England, the pacer was left out in a surprise move by the BCCI when the revised ODI squad was announced on Tuesday evening, where spinner Varun Chakravarthy was included.

Aakash Chopra Urges For Inclusion Of Harshit Rana

Aakash Chopra, after announcing the squad, suggested on his social media account that Gambhir should find some way to have uncapped pacer Harshit Rana to be included into the playing eleven for the series of ODIs against England, though he had accepted that he would be facing a lot of challenges as there would be Mohd. Shami and Arshdeep as the first pacers and it is Hardik Pandya for the third seam.

Aakash Chopra wrote, “Bumrah’s name not mentioned in the updated squad. Not for the final ODI also. There’s no Siraj in the team already. Find a way to get Rana to debut bs Eng. I don’t know how though…with Arshdeep having played only a handful of ODI and Shami on a comeback trail. Play three seamers?”

Rohit Sharma On Mohammed Shami

Rohit Sharma has spoken about the fact that it is only in the next couple of days after the scans are reviewed, a clearer update will be provided regarding Bumrah’s recovery. Shami is going to lead the fast bowling attack by India as a replacement of Bumrah in the ODI series, which he has featured in this year after recovering from an ankle injury at the end of the competition against West Indies, playing mixed performances within the T20 series.

“He has not played cricket for a year-and-a-half. Don’t be quick to judge players,” Rohit said of Shami.

“He has been playing cricket for the last 10-12 years and performed for the team. He bowled so well in the World Cup (2023). If he doesn’t get the results in some domestic matches as expected then it doesn’t make him a bad bowler.”
