Before the main tour, there is an India A side which will play two unofficial Tests in England. As per The Indian Express, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are the favorites to be part of the India A team for the first match against the England Lions. The BCCI selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, will probably select a 14-member team for the first unofficial Test, with most of the players being from teams that did not make it to the playoffs in the IPL.

Principal Team & Fringe Players Targeting Test Places

Sarfaraz Khan, who isn’t included in IPL 2025, will most likely accompany the principal Test team. Then again, Rajat Patidar, who is recuperating from a finger harm, might not be picked for the voyage.

The report further mentions that Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan, and Washington Sundar might appear in the second unofficial A Test to give selectors extra time to determine whether they are ready for red-ball cricket.

India will also have an intra-squad match ahead of the first Test, giving players additional chances to make their case.

Competition Intensifies for Middle-Order Spots

With Kohli and Rohit making way, at least two spots in the Test XI are vacant. Abhimanyu Easwaran, a perennial performer for India A and in domestic cricket, will look to finally nail down his spot. He will face tough competition from 23-year-old Sudharsan. Karun Nair, with his domestic resurgence, will also look to put in a claim.
