IND Vs ENG: Delay In India A Tour Likely, Fresh Faces To Be Included – Report

India A tour and practice matches will play a vital role in determining India's future backbone of Test cricket. With legends retiring, it is time for the next bunch to establish themselves on one of cricket's hardest platforms.

With the retirement of Test legends Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s next Test tour of England, which starts on June 20, has gained importance. The five-Test series is the beginning of a new chapter for India in the World Test Championship cycle.

India A Tour Expected to be Postponed Due to IPL Final

Before the main tour, there is an India A side which will play two unofficial Tests in England. The A tour was originally slated to start on May 30 but might now be delayed since the IPL 2025 final will take place on June 3. Players belonging to teams that are making a playoff might miss the beginning of the A series.

Jaiswal, Kishan To Be In India A Squad

As per The Indian Express, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are the favorites to be part of the India A team for the first match against the England Lions. The BCCI selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, will probably select a 14-member team for the first unofficial Test, with most of the players being from teams that did not make it to the playoffs in the IPL.

Possible probables are Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Dhruv Jurel, Shardul Thakur, Tanush Kotian, Akash Deep, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, and Manav Suthar.

Principal Team & Fringe Players Targeting Test Places

Sarfaraz Khan, who isn’t included in IPL 2025, will most likely accompany the principal Test team. Then again, Rajat Patidar, who is recuperating from a finger harm, might not be picked for the voyage.

The report further mentions that Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan, and Washington Sundar might appear in the second unofficial A Test to give selectors extra time to determine whether they are ready for red-ball cricket.

India will also have an intra-squad match ahead of the first Test, giving players additional chances to make their case.

Competition Intensifies for Middle-Order Spots

With Kohli and Rohit making way, at least two spots in the Test XI are vacant. Abhimanyu Easwaran, a perennial performer for India A and in domestic cricket, will look to finally nail down his spot. He will face tough competition from 23-year-old Sudharsan. Karun Nair, with his domestic resurgence, will also look to put in a claim.

India A tour and practice matches will play a vital role in determining India’s future backbone of Test cricket. With legends retiring, it is time for the next bunch to establish themselves on one of cricket’s hardest platforms.
