IND Vs ENG, 2nd T20I: ‘I Look To Score Singles’: Rinku Singh On His Batting Approach

A match-winning partnership of 108 runs off 57 was formed between Nitish Reddy (74 runs off 34 balls) and Rinku Singh (53 runs off 29 balls)

India finally went on to win the series by taking a lead of 2-0 and securing victory by 86 runs over Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I held at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, October 9.

Rinku praised his coach Gautam Gambhir for granting him the freedom to play his game, a lesson he had learnt from their time together at KKR in the IPL.

Rinku Singh Opens Up About His Approach

“When match started the ball was not coming properly to the bat and once we got the momentum we started to hit. The ball was gripping the surface but once we hit some sixes the momentum changed.” Rinku Singh said in post-match presentation

“When I come out to bat I look to score singles and look for bad balls to hit. The team is important, not me. The team should win the match,” elaborated Rinku on his approach as a batter.

Bangladesh elected to bat first after winning the toss in this match.

India, however, faced collapse at 41/3 but managed to recover through a match-winning partnership of 108 runs off 57 deliveries between Nitish (74 runs off 34 balls) and Rinku Singh (53 runs off 29 balls, that comprises five fours and three sixes). Hardik Pandya also adds with some quick runs off his bat: 32 runs off 19 balls and sustained to finish for India at 221/9 off 20 overs.

The bowling all-rounder Rishad Hossain took 3 wickets for 55 runs and the bowling bowling all-rounder Taskin Ahmed took 2 wickets for 16 runs.

Bangladesh started well in their pursuit of 222 runs but lost wickets at intervals. But Mahmadullah was impressive and accounted for 41 runs off 39 balls with three sixes. Bangladesh could score only 135 runs in their effort and lost the match by 86 runs. India had bowlers like Varun Chakravarthy with 2/19 and Nitish with 2/23 among others, while Abhishek Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, and Riyan Parag picked up one wicket each.

This meant India won the three-match series, as they have a lead of 2-0. For his all-round brilliance in this match, Nitish received the ‘Man of the Match’ award.
