Abhishek Sharma’s Asia Cup 2025 dream run continued as he plundered his way to a 25-ball half-century against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium. After scoring a breathtaking 74 against Pakistan, the left-handed batter again proved his destructive capacity by scoring back-to-back fifties in the tournament. His batting has secured his cemented place as one of India’s most fearless T20 batsmen, and he remains the No.1-ranked player in ICC T20I rankings with 907 rating points surpassed only by Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Virat Kohli (909) among Indian cricketers in history.
A Record-Breaking knock
Sharma was in annihilating touch against Bangladesh, clearing the ropes five times before a sharp bit of fielding put a halt to his innings on 75 off 37 balls. Amazingly, he had also hit five sixes against Pakistan, his total in the ongoing edition of the Asia Cup reaching 16. That surpassed Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of 14 sixes set in the 2008 tournament, and Abhishek became the highest six-hitting player in an individual Asia Cup.
Leaves behind Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav
The fifty off 23 balls was yet another feather in his cap. It was his fifth half-century in less than 25 balls the third-best among Indians behind Suryakumar Yadav (7) and Rohit Sharma (6). Joining his increasingly long list of landmarks, Abhishek became just the second Indian after Virat Kohli to score successive fifties in a T20 Asia Cup.
In 21 internationals, Sharma has made 708 runs with two centuries and three half-centuries, which is a testament to the fact that along with his big-hitting, consistency too has become his trait.
