It’s Day 3 but still the play hasn’t resumed but one good news for the team now is that the sun is expected to shine bright and dry up some of the wet patches on the outfield. Even so, conditions have not improved enough to pick up play.
Day 3: Pitch Still Needs Work For The Play To Resume
It’s overcast in Kanpur, though it might well clear as the afternoon wears on. The next inspection is called for 12 pm, so no play would be possible for five successive sessions: the third session of day one, the entire four sessions on day two, and the first session on day three.

“Soggy patches on the outfield. No sun yet,” Murali Kartik reported. Wet Outfield means that it would be very difficult for bowlers and fielders to sustain themselves on such slippery conditions.
There’s a hope that the play can start after lunch. The umpires said that both the pitch and outfield needed a lot of work and ruled out the first session outright. Even the early pitch inspection at 10 AM could not arrive at a conclusive verdict.

Having started at lunch at 33 for three, R Ashwin, who had been the Player of the Match in the first Test at Chennai last week after his all-round effort that included a five-wicket haul and a century, added another wicket to his list. That put him above Anil Kumble, meaning that on Asian soil, he is now second and only behind Muttiah Muralitharan, the Sri Lankan off-spinner. Bangladesh were then at 107 for three when the rain spoiled the action of the final session.
