Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq suffered a facial injury during the third One-Day International against New Zealand, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Saturday. The accident happened in the third over of Pakistan’s innings at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Imam, who was trying to take a quick single, was hit on the face by a direct throw from a fielder. The throw deflected off the helmet of Imam and struck him in the face, causing him to fall on the ground right away in visible discomfort. The incident put him into quite some pain, and medical personnel immediately ran in his direction to treat him on the field.

Imam-ul-Haq Stable But Progress Will Be Closely Monitored
After getting hurt, Imam was immediately removed from the field via an ambulance for further medical care. The PCB subsequently released a statement assuring fans that Imam was stable and had not incurred any serious injury. Following initial evaluations, doctors recommended that he rest for two weeks to completely recover. However, the PCB also made it clear that Imam had been given clearance for air travel and was fit to fly. Imam’s progress will be closely watched, but at present his fans can rest easy in the knowledge that he is stable.

PCB Statement
“Imam sustained a minor facial injury after being hit by a throw that deflected off his helmet,” the PCB said in a statement. “He was taken to a local hospital for further assessment as a precautionary measure.”
