India’s legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket and this sudden decision has has sparked huge buzz amongst both fans and experts. It is speculated that Ashwin wanted to play in India vs Australia series but if he is getting benched and not playing then he would rather bid adieu. As mentioned above Rohit Sharma also gave a hint about this while explaining about the conversation he had with Ravichandran Ashwin.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh was “shocked” after Ravichandran Ashwin announced the decision to retire. He also said, “I’don’t know what he was thinking.”
Is Ashwin Not Happy With Indian Team Management’s Decision?
It has been speculated that Ravichandran Ashwin wanted to play the series against Australia but he was benched in 1st and 2nd Test hence it is also speculated that he wasn’t happy with this decision. In the press-conference Rohit Sharma also mentioned that they had a chat about his decision and Ashwin clearly mentioned that if he is not needed in the series then he will better say goodbye to the game.
Is Age A Factor Behind Ashwin’s Sudden Decision?
Ravichandran Ashwin is already 38 years old and it is likely that his decision came in because of the age factor. He even mentioned in the press-conference that: “There’s a bit left in me as a cricketer, but I would like to exploit it at the domestic and club-level cricket, but this would be the last day (at the international level).”
Ashwin will still be playing domestic and club level cricket.

The toughest question for the Indian team management will be now who’ll take place of the legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
