A new announcement was made by International Cricket Council (ICC), which was the introduction of Women’s Champions Trophy in the Women’s Future Tour Programme (FTP) for 2025-29. Sri Lanka has been picked as the host of inaugural edition that will be held in June-July 2027. The motive behind bringing in the global tournament is to popularize women’s cricket.
3 Major Events Lined Up
With ICC Champions Trophy for women now in the list, there will be three major tournaments that will be held over a span of twelve months. India will be hosting the Women’s ODI World Cup 2026. In another development, West Indies will be playing Women’s Test cricket after a gap of 20 years. They will be playing against Australia in March-April 2026, England in April-May 2027 and against South Africa in November-December 2028.

Women’s Premier League
Apart from all the above-mentioned events, WPL is expected to begin in January and February starting 2026. The ICC had also expanded the Women’s ODI Championship to include Zimbabwe as a member and currently stands at 11 teams competing in it.
Both the teams will play against each other in ICC events. There are no bilateral series planned between the two nations for this cycle.
