Former Indian cricketer and commentator Ravi Shastri has lavished praise on Pat Cummins for his terrific captaincy during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, after Australia won it 3-1 against India. This series was Australia’s first win on Indian soil since 2017, and the victory was also the first that Cummins could celebrate as Australia’s captain over the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Ravi Shastri Praises Pat Cummins
According to Shastri, it was Cummins’ leadership and motivational skills during the entire series that he admired about him. Looking at his own term as India head coach, the period when his team won the Test series against Australia consecutively, Shastri told reporters that he never had any criticism for this man. As a coach in this tour, Shastri was greatly impressed by Cummins’ fiercely competitive spirit, and his unstoppable drive. As a player as well as the captain, never-say-die attitude had been the hallmarks of Cummins’ entire career.
“I Would Just Admire His Determination”
“He (Cummins) amazes me,” the former India coach told ICC. “Even when I was the coach in the dressing room, I would just admire his determination, his willingness to compete. He never gives up and it’s like that session after session – he’ll come at you with the ball.”
“And just when the chips were down, various times in the series, he rose to the occasion. And not just with the ball, but with the bat as well.”
