Shikhar Dhawan has come in support of the Indian team skipper Rohit Sharma over the criticism of his cautious captaincy in the recently concluded series against New Zealand. India suffered its first home Test series defeat after 2012 as New Zealand outplayed them in the first two matches. This defeat against New Zealand has complicated India’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. Rohit was grilled for his choices, mainly when he opted to bat first in overcast Bengaluru wicket that failed to produce the expected harvest. Even preparing a turning pitch in Pune proved to be the wrong tactic, and bowling changes and field placements had many going up in arms against him.

Taking all this into consideration, Dhawan came to the defense of Rohit saying victory and defeat is part and parcel of games.

“The pressure you all talk about isn’t something we feel. While there is pressure in the game, we don’t dwell on losses or wins; that’s part of the game,” Dhawan told IndiaToday
“I feel that’s neither a fair nor a practical approach toward anything,” he added.
“As a cricketer, we don’t think that way. And Rohit is a great leader; it’s not just about winning and losing. There’s a bond, the team’s connection with its leader, and how much they look up to him,” Dhawan added.
Team India will be looking forward to stop the kiwis from registering a third win in the third Test in order to avoid a clean sweep of series. India has already lost the series but will be fighting for their pride. The third Test is set to begin from November 1.
