India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to miss a major portion of forthcoming international cricket after suffering an injury setback. According to a Dainik Jagran report, Hardik is going to be out of India’s tour of Australia, comprising a three-match ODI series and five T20Is, with certainty.
A left quadriceps strain was sustained by Hardik Pandya during India’s Super 4 match against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025 played at the Dubai International Stadium. The 31-year-old had to be taken off the field after bowling only one over and didn’t make it back. He missed subsequently the final against Pakistan as well, where Rinku Singh was introduced as his replacement.

The report indicates that Hardik, who also leads Mumbai Indians in the IPL, has been ordered at least four weeks of rest. The timeline places his availability in grave doubt for the entire Australia tour, which starts on October 19 in Perth. Even with a quick rebound, Hardik will likely sit out the ODI series, which could include the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to white-ball action after announcing their Test cricket retirements at the beginning of the year.
The T20I series is set to begin on October 29 at Hobart’s Manuka Oval. It is still unclear whether Hardik can return in time for at least a portion of the series or not. The BCCI medical team is likely to provide an official update soon.
While commentating in the final of the Asia Cup, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has confirmed Hardik’s quadriceps injury. Throughout the tournament, Hardik had taken four wickets and made 48 runs, a highest score of 38 against Bangladesh. In the final, Tilak Varma took India to its ninth Asia Cup victory with an unbeaten 69, driving the team towards its ninth Asia Cup crown.
