Pakistan’s cricket team white-ball coach Gary Kirsten has sought more professionalism and cohesion from the national men’s outfit. The appeal for more professionalism and a unified set of players comes at a time when the national side is in deep despair, and pride needs to be put back into the team. The appeal was made by Kirsten on September 23 at a press conference organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Gary Kirsten Suggests Changes To Be Made In Pakistan Cricket Team

This comes on the very first day of the ‘Connection Camp’ where team management and select players met to discuss the future course of Pakistan cricket. The team has been under relentless challenges lately, having been edged out in group stages of the ODI as well as the T20 World Cups. They also suffered their maiden home Test series defeat at the hands of Bangladesh. Internal fractures within the team have also reportedly started to appear; Test captain Shan Masood raised this issue yesterday during the media conference. Kirsten highlighted three qualities: professionalism, pride and unity in representing the national team.

“It was a fantastic time today to be part of this connection camp. I think the intention around it was to align our purposes for the team. I think we all agree we want the Pakistan team to be as successful as it possibly can be across all the formats. And we spend today just going through the various things that can help us and help the team be the best version of itself. So I think, from the team and the players in terms of their levels of professionalism, was one thing that we spoke about that was really important. And I think the commitments around making sure that they are. And present themselves as best they can for the for the nation, and to bring pride back into Pakistan cricket,” Kirsten said in the press conference.

Focusing On Unified Approach

“I think we we all want a successful team, don’t we, and we want the team to do well in everything that they play in. And there’s no reason why it can’t. It’s a very talented cricket team across all the formats, but there are processes that you need to put in place. And this and I think that’s what we focusing on. We want to know that we got a robust system in the country and that there’s competition for places, and that our team is unified in its approach to competing against the best teams in the world,” Kirsten concluded on the matter.

Former India coach said the Pakistanis truly want to see their cricket team win. But such desire alone won’t help if not accompanied by measures to begin winning again in a match or series or tournament. Pakistan will be acting as a host for the Champions Trophy 2025, and it can prove to be some redemption for them under Babar Azam.
