The auction for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 season saw many players fetch big bucks while a few saw disappointing outcomes come their way.
Players like Phil Salt who scored a blazing century just days before the auction, saw himself go unsold in the auction and was disappointed with the outcome.
Here are the main talking points which came up after the auction –
KKR hopeful of a one man-show
With the Kolkata Knight Riders splashing big money on Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc, they would be hoping for a star studded performance from the bowler. This will be the prime example of a team backing the skills of a single player and trying to have a X-factor going into the tournament.

CSK going the Kiwi way
CSK’s shopping list didn’t have all of the desired things, but Kiwis were definitely a part of their list as the 5-time champions went on to buy Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell in the auction who joined teammates Devon Conway and Mitchell Santner in the squad as well. Chennai’s bargain buy of Rachin Ravindra proved to be a shocker as well with the All-rounder going for just INR 1.80 Crores.

Hyderabad’s good headache
While Sunrisers Hyderabad went all out for World Cup winning skipper Pat Cummins in the auction and acquired his services for a whopping INR 20.50 Crores, they now have selection dilemma at their hands. With a number of overseas players at the helm like Aiden Markram, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, Glenn Phillips, Marco Jansen, and Hasaranga, chosing just 4 players in the eleven would be nothing short of a challenge for the team.

Gujarat’s mindful approach
Despite of losing skipper Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians in an all cash deal ahead of the Auction, Gujarat have done some mindful business in the Auction. Getting players like Shahrukh Khan, Umesh Yadav, Robin Minz and going aggressively after promising Aussie pacer Spencer Johnson could prove to be influential in the team’s objective of getting their hands on their 2nd IPL trophy.

Some Business left to do
With the IPL Auction 2024 over, teams could still buy or sell players with the trading window now open for teams. According to IPL’s rules, the teams can buy or sell a player in the form of a player swap or via an all cash deal till the window closes. However, the IPL governing council will have a final say in the transfer being completed.
