New Delhi: Team India has been battling with the choice of wicketkeeper between Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant. When Pant had struggled to step in the role of a finisher, selectors definitely find Karthik better for the role.
Currently, Rishabh Pant is not taken in the playing XI of India and Karthik is chosen over him. This has sparked debate among the fans of the cricketers.
Former Pakistan cricketer Wahab Riaz talked about how Pakistan Board would have treated him if Pant was part of their team.
“Rishabh Pant is India’s best wicketkeeper-batter since MS Dhoni. He even has hundreds in England and Australia. If he was in the Pakistan team, would he sit outside in a World Cup match? No chance. India kept him out for Dinesh Karthik. They know Pant is a good player who will score a lot of runs but he can’t be a finisher. At that specific number, they need a finisher. Pant might hit a couple of sixes but if he fails to finish the game, India will lose. That’s the way to go),” Riaz said in conversation with News 24HD.
India believe in match-ups – Mohammad Amir
Mohammad Amir, who was also a guest on the show, added to the debate and said, “I agree with you. The Rishabh Pant – DK example he gave is absolutely spot on. When Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the T20 World Cup, they brought in Axar Patel and not another bowler. India believe in match-ups.”
In the game against South Africa, Rohit Sharma once against went with Dinesh Karthik in the choice of wicketkeeper and Pant has been on bench for a long time.
