The ongoing controversy between the BCCI and PCB continues to stir debate, particularly after India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan over safety concerns. India proposed that all its matches be played at a neutral venue, a suggestion initially rejected by Pakistan. However, after extensive discussions, Pakistan is now likely to accept a hybrid model, with one condition: both countries would play future ICC events in this format until 2027.
Safety Concerns In Pakistan
In an exclusive interview with News24, Suresh Raina weighed in and strongly opined that India’s decision to not travel to Pakistan is “absolutely correct” as the situation in Pakistan is very uncertain and “safety always comes first”.
“The situation in Pakistan is not right and I feel the decision take by Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) is correct”
“Pakistan came to India for ODI World Cup 2023 and was beautifully welcomed in Gujarat but can India go to Pakistan? I don’t feel its safe to go there.”
India-Pakistan Matches Should Be Held In Neutral Venue
Raina clearly stated that the matches between India and Pakistan should be played in neutral venues like Dubai, South Africa or England.
“Cricket should be a priority but I don’t feel going to Pakistan is safe, so many things keep happening hence we should play in neutral venues like South Africa, Dubai or England”
“Safety comes first, its a good decision not to go there. Safety of players is very important and whatever decision Jay Shah has taken, its absolutely right” said Raina.
ICC Decision Expected Soon
The confusion over hosting the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan still looms. Reports emerged that the Pakistan Cricket Board had agreed to host the tournament under a hybrid model, which had been suggested by the Board of Control for Cricket in India and was influenced by pressure from the International Cricket Council. Despite this development, there has been no official statement from the ICC or any of the involved parties confirming the details of the meetings or the timeline for the tournament schedule. This has left fans eagerly waiting for more clarity.
