With Rishabh Pant already out of the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 through injury, N Jagadeesan has become the favorite to replace him in the team. The 29-year-old Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter is likely to be appointed as Pant’s replacement before the series’ fifth and final Test. A formal announcement is imminent.
Pant injured his right toe in fracture on the opening day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, while batting. On medical examination, it was established he would play no further part in the series.

After his injury, the BCCI, the national selectors, and team management started considering adequate replacements. Ishan Kishan was seen as an initial back-up, but it was later established that the 27-year-old Jharkhand player is out of contention.
That paved the way for Jagadeesan, who has been in steady form at home and now will join the team before the last Test. This selection is an important chance for him to leave his impression on the international scene in a high-profile series.
