Rishabh Pant, also the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, came to bat on day 2 of the fourth Test with an injured toe, but displayed exemplary determination and resilience. Despite being in excruciating pain, he watched a few balls before rain caused an early break in the proceedings, forcing an early lunch, and then he came in to play. Earlier, when Pant was injured, Goenka wished him a speedy recovery and wrote, “Wishing you a speedy recovery, Rishabh. You’re a fighter, and we know you’ll come back stronger.”

Before returning to field, the BCCI had reported that Pant had fractured his right foot and would not be able to contribute to wicket-keeping for the rest of England’s innings. Dhruv Jurel replaced him as the wicket-keeper but Pant will still be seen batting.
