The Delhi Premier League served up a high-voltage game on Thursday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with West Delhi Lions snatching a nail-biting 3-run victory over Central Delhi Kings.
Chowdhary Keeps Calm in Final Over
Championing a total of 178, the Lions were in trouble as the Kings required only 7 runs off the last over. Anirudh Chowdhary however stepped up to the challenge, bowling an extraordinary last over in which he allowed just 3 runs and sent Kings’ captain Jonty Sidhu back to the pavilion for 56 (41 balls). His last spell of 1/24 off 3 overs proved to be the turning point of the match.
Yash Dhull and Sidhu Nearly Secure It for Kings
Pursuing 179, Central Delhi Kings were devastated in the early stages by a couple of rapid wickets. However, Yash Dhull provided solidity to the innings with a smooth 72 off 49 and fashioned a 79-run stand with Sidhu. A late-order cameo of 23 off 12 by Aditya Bhandari made the game competitive, but Lions’ bowlers strangled the run passage towards the end. Shivank Vashisht also contributed significantly, taking 1/16 in 3 overs.
Krish Yadav Heroics Provide Lions’ Total
Earlier, the Lions had batted first and were at 65/4 before Krish Yadav came to the rescue with a gritty 85 off 60 balls. His innings was the foundation of the total, supported by Hrithik Shokeen (20 off 11) and Ravneet Tanwar, who scored vital runs at the end to give a fighting score of 178/8.
Pundir Impresses with the Ball
Among the Kings’ bowlers, Arun Pundir impressed with a tight spell of 2/16 in 4 overs, which kept the Lions under wraps in the middle overs.
Lions Roar in a Last-Over Classic
In spite of the last-over fright, West Delhi Lions were in control, and Anirudh Chowdhary stole all the limelight in the dying moments. The 3-run win would go down in history as one of the best thrillers of this DPL season.
