Rohan Jaitley has emerged victorious in the highly contested election for the position of president of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). He defeated former India cricketer Kirti Azad. First elected unopposed in 2020, Jaitley will now complete his second term as the head of the state association.
Election Results
Jaitley got a strong mandate when he secured 1,577 out of a total of 2,413. The former challenger Azad had just secured 777 votes, thus not crossing the 1,207 votes needed to win.
Besides Jaitley’s win, his camp had a clean sweep in other key positions. Shikha Kumar was elected vice-president, she defeated Rakesh Kumar Bansal and Sudhir Kumar Agarwal. Ashok Sharma emerged as the new secretary, while Harish Singla was elected treasurer, and Amit Grover claimed the position of joint secretary.
Anand Verma, Navdeep Malhotra, Manjit Singh, Shyam Sunder Sharma, Tushar Saigal, Vikas Katyal and Vikram Kohli have secured the position of Director.
Kirti Azad’s Falls Short
Azad, who was a member of India’s World Cup-winning team in 1983 and a sitting MP with the Trinamool Congress, was looking to mount a serious challenge to Jaitley. But allegations of corruption and his campaign against the present dispensation didn’t quite find an answerable chord with the electorate.
Jaitley’s Legacy Continues
Rohan Jaitley, who took over as DDCA president after his late father Arun Jaitley, enters his second term. Arun Jaitley was the president of the DDCA from 1999 to 2013, and his legacy continues to influence Delhi cricket. Rohan’s victory solidifies the family’s longstanding influence over the association.
