Jannik Sinner added one more trophy to his ever-growing trove, claiming his 21st career title in a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over American teen Learner Tien in the China Open 2025 final on Wednesday. On the Beijing hard courts, the world number two delivered a clinical display to win the China Open title for the second time, having won the same title at the venue in 2023, when he beat Daniil Medvedev in the final. With this victory, 24-year-old Italian become only the third player in history to win China Open more than once joining Novak Djokovic (6 titles) and Rafael Nadal (2 titles) in the exclusive club.
Sinner’s sole loss on Beijing’s Diamond Court is still his electrifying defeat to Carlos Alcaraz last year’s final. But with Alcaraz deciding not to defend his title this year and instead winning the Japan Open in Tokyo helped Sinner capitalize in the Chinese capital.
Against Tien, who was playing in his first ATP final, Sinner took control from the outset, breaking serve in the opening game. The 19-year-old American, ranked 52nd in the world, showed glimpses of potential but was ultimately no match for Sinner’s consistency and firepower. The Italian sealed the match in just over an hour, firing 10 aces and denying Tien any real momentum.
If Tien had achieved the surprise, he would have been the lowest-ranked champion in China Open history and the second-youngest American ATP title-winner since Andy Roddick in 2002.
This win is Sinner’s third of the season after his victory at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. With Alcaraz opting out of the Shanghai Masters after getting injured, Sinner might now be well-placed to retake the world number one ranking before the end of the season. He arrives in Shanghai as the number one seed with the tournament already in motion.
