The schedule for Champions Trophy has still not released and BCCI-PCB still remain in conflict. There have been multiple reports that Pakistan has agreed for a hybrid model but laid down certain demands.
Hybrid Model Agreed Upon After Prolonged Negotiations
The first contention arose when the BCCI refused to allow India’s national team to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The PCB, in turn, decided to be stern and demanded that the tournament be staged entirely in Pakistan. However, after a long discussion, the PCB agreed to the hybrid model where matches were to be played both in Pakistan as well as neutral venues.
Key Demands Made By the PCB
As part of this deal, the PCB stipulated a formula of cooperation. According to the understanding, Pakistan will participate in all ICC events that India hosts, with the exception of one incident, where India and Sri Lanka are hosting the 2026 T20 World Cup. In case this understanding is finalised, it will be played in Sri Lanka instead of India.
PCB Adds New Twist, Rejects Financial Aid By BCCI
According to a report by Express Tribune, In a bid to undo the financial blow inflicted upon Pakistan by India’s refusal refusal to play in Pakistan, the BCCI proposed financial assistance to the PCB. However, the PCB refused this offer to keep national pride and support the tit-for-tat approach. The board’s stance shows that they mean business and want to bring a level playing field to the two countries.
Delayed Schedule For Champions Trophy
The rift between the BCCI and PCB has delayed the schedule for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. But according to reports, the schedule is going to be published within the next few days. The three-year partnership agreement between the two boards will not be officially announced with the schedule, but it will surely be confirmed soon.
Hybrid Model Approved by ICC
The tournament is likely to begin on 19 February while the final is scheduled to take place on 9 March. According to this plan, 10 of the matches to be played under the championship will be conducted in Pakistan, and the entire match between India and Pakistan in the contest will be hosted in Dubai. Should India reach the semifinals, the knockout stages will either be held in Dubai or Pakistan.
