India is going to announce a 15-member squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. The biggest dilemma for selectors is the case of Jasprit Bumrah, who may not find his place due to injury problems. According to Hindustan Times, Bumrah is set to be named in the provincial squad for the ICC tournament but it will strictly depend on if he is “pain-free after returning to bowling.”
Bumrah’s Injury Update And Medical Consultation
Bumrah, who suffered from back spasms during the recent Border-Gavaskar Test series in Australia, was quickly rushed to the hospital in Sydney for scans. Although the BCCI’s medical team has not yet officially disclosed the nature of the injury, it was reported that Bumrah sought advice from New Zealand orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Rowan Schouten. Dr. Schouten had earlier treated Bumrah for a back issue in 2023. Bumrah is likely to be rested for India’s home series against England, which comprises five T20Is and three ODIs starting January 22, before joining the squad in Dubai for the Champions Trophy.
“The surgeon is in touch with BCCI’s medical team and the selectors are expected to be informed,” read the report by Hindustan Times
India’s Provisional Squad And Bumrah’s Medical Clearance
While Bumrah is expected to be in India’s provincial squad for the Champions Trophy due by January 12 under ICC guidelines—it all depends on Bumrah getting medical clearance and being fit. The selectors will have to go through the paces closely, and there shall be much depending on his rehabilitation process getting him fit to play without any pain.
