Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Will Adelaide Be A Fast Bowling Paradise For The 2nd Test?

The last time India visited Adelaide, they were bowled out for just 36, their lowest-ever Test score. This time, however, India goes into the game with more confidence, having already won the first Test of the series by a massive 295-run margin.

Damian Hough, the curator of Adelaide Oval has confirmed that the pitch for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will have an even cut of grass at 6mm. Speaking to media on December 4, he said that the conditions will give assistance to fast bowlers.

Balanced Wicket For 2nd Test

When asked whether the pitch will be dominated by pacers, Hough said his side’s focus was to have a balanced wicket that can give chances for batters as well as both pacers and spinners. However, he agreed that in overcast conditions and playing under lights, seamers could thrive on the track.

Rain On Day 1: What Can We Expect From The Pitch?

With the thundershowers expected on Day 1 of the Test, and an 88% chance on December 6, Hough said that while the ball may swing and seam during those conditions it won’t be because of the pitch but because of the atmospheric conditions.

Damian Hough On Adelaide Pitch

“History suggests that it is hard to bat under lights in Adelaide. The pitch will have 6mm of grass. We are trying to produce a pitch that would be a good contest. The pitch did not play a part in the Test match finishing in 3 days last time India were here. I thought that it was really good bowling from Australia. As long as there is something in it for all aspects of the game, I am happy, I just want a good contest,” Adelaide Oval curator Damian Hough told the press on Wednesday, 4 December.

The Ball Likely To Move Under Right Conditions

“The ball hooping around has got nothing to do with the pitch. Under right conditions, right weather, the ball will move,” he further added.
