Nathan Lyon and Ravichandran Ashwin stand as the two of the greatest Test bowlers as they feature in the top 10 list of most wickets taken in Test cricket history. The two will clash in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia which will be starting from November 22. Former South African spinner Paul Adams also highlighted that Nathan Lyon has a better complete game compared to Ravichandran Ashwin.
Which Spinner Will Dominate In Australia Tests?
Ashwin stands ahead as the seventh-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 536 wickets in 105 Tests, while Lyon trails him by just six wickets from 129 games, with 530 scalps. According to Adams, it is this ability and comfort to perform all across the conditions that makes the difference between Lyon and others. He pointed out that experience and understanding of how to get successful across different kinds of pitches is a crucial advantage in Lyon’s favor.
Paul Adams Names Nathan Lyon As Top Bowler
“I still think Nathan Lyon has a more complete game in terms of competing in the subcontinent and in Australia or South Africa, those types of conditions, than Ashwin,” Adams said in a virtual interaction arranged by SA20.
“He has a carrom ball that can turn the ball the opposite ways. But Lyon has been someone who has bowled with a lot of over-spin. That challenges the batters,” Adams said.
Nathan Lyon In Border-Gavaskar Trophy
He is the highest wicket-taker in the history of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with 121 wickets in 27 matches.
